fossil given the amount of buried antiquities in the arab worlds, have you had
a chance to get over there and do any digging?
messyflatmate Report This Comment Date: June 21, 2006 01:30PM
and i do ask that seriously - not taking the piss

messyflatmate: too "hot" for my tastes.
now morocco on the other hand is rich with ammonites.
i had the opportunity to join an expedition to the valley of the kings to work
with the egyptians doing geographical surveys, topographical maps, and generally
plotting prospective dig sites. the new sites are not public record yet.
egyptology is incredibly interesting because the information we have of ancient
egyptians is limited.

i presume you mean the weather - or maybe the politics :-)
egypt must have more undiscovered sites, its a treasure trove to be sure. and
still so much to find out - even debate about the timeframe of dynasties. I
guess most assume that because of carbondating that we know exactly when
pharoahs ruled.

definately politics, i live in dallas and heat is a fact of life.
someday i want to go to iraq and study. the tigris/euphrates area is a gold mine
of archaelogical info just waiting to be discovered.

okay is that right about the t/e delta being full of undiscovered stuff. i seem
to recall in school we were told that that area was something like the
birthplace of civilisation.
probably not the best time to go there right now
and you are into "recent" stuff like the egyptians as well as ancient
stuff like amonites. here in queensland they are starting to discover some very
good fossils

egyptology is another love of mine.
austrailia/ N.Z. is an undiscovered world of the fossil record
