I knew Assange from several years back; although I don't think much of him as a
person I do respect that he has the balls and conviction to stand up for what he
believes in.

"revelations come from a 1996 plea hearing, during which Julian Paul
Assange, then of Hawthorn, pleaded guilty to 24 charges, including computer
hacking.
He was 20 at the time of his offending in 1991, and the court heard that while
he was one of three hackers caught in the sting, he was the most active and
skilled, targeting RMIT, the Australian National University and a Canadian
telecommunications firm.
At the time of his plea hearing he had put his tertiary studies on hold to care
for his son, then six. He was convicted and placed on a three-year good
behaviour bond and ordered to pay $2100.
