As I recall, there weren't any references to any specific terestrial religions
on Star Trek. One of the major points of the show was that everyone has equal
rights, which was very well portrayed even on the original series by presenting
a multicultural and multiracial crew. On a ship crewed mostly by people in
uniform, how do you know there weren't any muslims; from warriers, to sports
teams, to truck drivers, to gang members, to anyone else who wears a uniform,
the purpose of that uniform has always been to unify the group that wears it, to
show that they have a commonality of purpose which allows them to set aside
their differences. I've never been a fan of uniforms but I sure wish everyone
could set aside their differences and just get along.

Hmm... While adequate, picard is too compassionate. Sir Shatner would have
beamed them down onto a planet ruled by Harry Mudd, and overrun by tribbles.

On DS9 Dr. Bashir is Muslim.
Tiw Report This Comment Date: November 04, 2006 05:43PM
Do you mean Bashir is Muslim or the chap who plays him is? As mentioned before
(and my personal recollection of the series) there was no mention to any
religious beliefs before
Chakotay.

Actually, folks, I was pretty much refering to the original Star Trek and The
Next Generation. I thought those two were the best and kind of lost interest in
the subsequent programs so I couldn't say about Bashir.

The character Dr. Bashir was of Muslim descent. Not sure about the actor.
BlahX3 Report This Comment Date: November 04, 2006 07:33PM
Actually, make that "of Persian" descent. Here I sit, self-corrected.

We all could get along as long as the rest of the muslems don't follow the
radicals in their beliefs. I will never be converted to any religion by the
sword. If my choice was to convert or die I will choose death no matter what
religion they wanted me to convert to.

It seems Muslims are doing now what the Catholics did in the middle ages when
they burned people at the stake for not being Catholic.

They are making a move for world domination and gathering support along the
way. Our political correctness will be our downfall because they have none and
know how to use it against us.

So the Catholics and the rest of the world have moved forward while the Islamic
extremists are still in the dark ages; I agree with that.

The only thing that will stop them from bringing about their 'crusades' would
be for the moderate muslems to put a stop to their activities. I really don't
see this happening anywhere though.

They're rebelling against the crusades we waged against THEM. Numbnuts.
The problem is fundamentalism in general. Infantile "Jayzus" bleaters
or those Fatois Arbuckle towelheads, they're all the same and don't know fuck
about what religon is actually here to accomplish. Which is pretty much the
opposite of what they want it to....
It's like Dennis Miller said at the turn of the century about the same:
Warrin & Whorin' but never borin'.

I agree, fundamentalists & radicals of all religions they claim to
represent are twisting things to fit their own agendas. I was taught that God
created man in his own image but seems like folks are constantly trying to
makeover God into their own image.

If they are rebelling against the crusades then they are a few years too late.
Shows just how stupid these people are.

They're definitely way behind in the smarts & decency departments. If
they'd just put as much energy into building things up instead of trying to tear
things apart. It's very sad.
