A Mack "Manager" Midliner, actually a Renault. The one I drove was
this size but only had the side rails on the front section and had no lift in
the rear. It was the largest truck in a company with a dozen or so warehouses in
Florida that ran smaller Isuzus and a few Mitsubishis, and they wouldn't have
bought it outright but it belonged to another company they bought out. Naturally
it sometimes got called upon to do some hauling for other warehouses that their
trucks just couldn't manage (pun intended) and I loved driving it though some
drivers were afraid of it's size (wimps), and then there was Lulu, one of our
best drivers but she couldn't reach the pedals in it. The company was so cheap
that for awhile the side rails were ones I built myself out of wood but they
finally had some steel ones made (heavy bastards they were) and a step put on to
make it easier to climb on & off, after I'd moved up from driver to
assistant warehouse manager of course. Our big problem was finding a repair shop
that could deal with it in our area, which is not really a major metropolitan
area, and that would put up with the company's slow pay. In the company's
defense, we had a lot of problems with slow paying customers too.
