My cataract was very dense and a normally 10 minute procedure took 30 minutes because it took him longer to dissolve it with the ultrasound probe. He did a great job and I can see almost completely clearly with that eye a week later. Makes me dizzy while I get used to it though smiling
smiley I'll need new glasses to balance it out better too but gotta wait another week or so for that while it all settles in place. Yay! I've already stopped banging into things on my left side. thumbs

Do they use donor implants or fully synthetic?

Synthetic. The implanted lens is plastic. The doctor also put in a stabilizing ring around the edge of the lens but I couldn't find an illustration of that. They video recorded the operation and I get a DVD of it. I just haven't picked it up from the office yet.

I got the DVD and it's pretty strange to watch. Not terribly gross or anything but not something I'd want to watch if it wasn't my own eye. I think they stopped recording once the lens implant was in and didn't show the tension ring being inserted. I could definitely see why they need one though. Once the old lens is out the iris kind of collapses and loses its roundness. The implanted lens looks exactly like a tiny contact lens. It could be he put the ring in at the same time as the lens, hard to tell cuz it happened pretty fast and some of the lenses have the ring attached to them anyway. Had my 2 week checkup and it's fine. The eye is a bit more nearsighted than expected but that's ok. I am just glad I can see with both eyes again! It's totally amazing. My brain is still adjusting to it and it keeps improving every day.

I sit corrected. Watched the video again and the ring went in just before the lens implant. Hard to see cuz it's so thin and happened so fast. I'm glad the doc has good eyes! Now I do too! Yippee! Bring on the 3D movies muthafuckas!
