football (uk version) will never take off in america, simply because it's too low scoring. america likes games where there are lots of points scored, so they can jump around like idiots and play stupid music over the speaker system, and have lots of breaks so that if it's televised they can play some adverts and if you're there so you can go to the loo arter drinking a 64oz plastic cup of what passes for beer.
but more to the point, america needs to have a winner, they'd rather play all night long rather than have a draw, and many a football match ends in a draw, but show me one american football, baseball or basketball game that ended in a draw.
