It is in all animals nature to kill therfore it doesn't take thought to do it. It's instinctual. Mercy on the other hand takes thought and reflection and shows higher order processes are occuring.
Calling any killing of someone who wants to be alive compassionate is ridiculous.
It would have shown gutz by governor Girly Man to commute Williams' sentence to life in prison. Fending off his supporters to extend someones life would not have made republicans in Ca happy. They are the one who's philosophy sucks.
Killing by the state is an illogical conclusion to resolve any crime. The state is supposed to have the highest moral character and the discipline to carry it out. By lowering itself to animal status the state invalidates itself and ironically pushes for a state of anarchy. Every man for himself because when it gets down to it, the state is incapable of protecting the weak.
