Polio has been nearly eradicated because of vaccination programs that people started participating in 1954. In 1988 there were 350,000 cases worldwide and in 2017 that number was down to 22 reported cases. Vaccinations created herd immunity, something we should have been approaching by now with COVID if it weren't for the politically motivated covidiots who prefer to be the control group and have allowed the virus to mutate into something that still infects some of the vaccinated though with a far, far better prognosis than that for the unvaccinated. It's my guess that there will eventually be yearly vaccinations for COVID just as there are now for the flu.
