I've been close, but not that close. That area has been a popular tourist attraction for over a century so the gators are probably so used to seeing people all the time that they've lost much of their natural fear. I've never been there, at least as an adult - had plans to a few times, as recently as a couple weeks ago, but for some reason the plans always fall through; maybe that's a good thing. There are monkeys living wild along that river too, non natives that are left over from the days when some Tarzan movies were filmed there.
