I hate to inform you, but this isn't based on race. Its all about money. These
are the poor. Don't you think if they had money, they would have tried to avoid
this at all cost? I'm not saying we should let people be leeches in our society,

the soldiers time is mainly spent protecting the white foreigners from the

I keep hearing about how poor these people were and how they were unable to
leave. I'm sorry...I just don't buy that. Greyhound has really low fares, all
it took was a little bit of planning. Bottom line is that I think these people
either didn't think a Category 5 storm posed any threat or they simply to lazy
to plan in time. As it turned, It was just more convienient to accuse George
Bush of conspiring against the black man

Wealthy whites didn't leave either, until after the storm. My point about Bush
is that he said plans were in place to help the people of New Orleans, just as
Bush had planned a quick victory in Iraq. All talk and no action. Days after
the storm and nothing happened, even among the visable people at an evacuation
center in the center of the disaster area; Now you tell me... Is it that Bush
is stupid, or is it that he just doesn't care. Those are the only two possible
answers. I saw a huge police presence in boats patroling St Charles though.
God forbid the poor blacks would break into the homes of the wealthy, even to
steal a piece if bread and some clean water! Face it; Bush is a failure. He's
a weasel and a twat. Everyone sees him exactly as he is, and there are only a
few of you mindless enough to continue to try and defend his indefensable
actions...

You raise an interseting point. It is becoming harder and harder to defend
George Bush. The problem I have is that everything he does or says is so
predictable. Everyone knew that he was going to go visit the storm site.
Everyone knew that he was going to comfort the women and children. Everyone
knew he was going for a photo op..etc... If it was me , I would have just stayed
home and maybe hold a press conference after the fact. I would have told the
residents to toughen up and although they endured a horrible experience...I
would say they need not cry upon anyones shoulder, but understand that others
have suffered a plight much greater than yours and it is time to move forward
and rebuild your city with pride and oh yeah...one more thing...EVACUATE NEXT
TIME...but instead we get plain boring ol' predictable George. Part of the job
of being a leader of a country is to say things that are more bold more moving
more poetic more powerful than the press or anyone else. I don't see that in
George W. Bush.

As I said...It wasn't the response time that bothered me. Without any
communications and an incompetent mayor, it was entirely understandable. What
does bother me is the constant pandering by the president. Also with the
residents...this feeling that the the world somehow owes them something all
because they were unprepared and didnt plan for the storm

However, I must comment that you had one, tiny advantage: You are white. Your
priviledge is that other white people - who hold the keys to the kingdom in this
here country - were likely sympathetic to your cause. Sympathetic in a way they
most certainly would not have been if your skin was brown. Have you ever read
/Black Like Me/ ? About a white man who colors himself, then reports on the way
whites treated him?
Do you remember, about 7 or so years ago, all those black church firebombings?
How many were there, something like 30? All across the South.
Did the FBI ever find the persons that set those fires? They didn't make much
effort to do so. Perhaps a few were caught. This indicates that white-on-black
violence is "tacitly" condoned by the authorities.
You cite the mayor of N'awrlins and some other tokens as being black. Yes, some
blacks have made it into the power structure. But look at the example of Colin
Powell: Intelligent, relatively powerful. But what did they make him do? He
was forced to lie through his stinkin' teeth at the U.N. General Assembly. He
was required to humiliate himself in front of the entire world.
This is the fate of blacks in America.
It's more than money. It's race. The blacks (and the poor and homeless in
general) are used to keep everyone else happy they have their shitty $5.25/hour
job at Wal-Mart.
Once we Americans accept this fact, the faster we will be able to resolve it.

I went to a school that was eighty percent black, five percent indian, and
fifteen percent white. I know what is it like to be the underdog. Reverse
discrimination runs rampant, too. Don't think being white is always a pleasant
experience. I remember in the fifth grade, I got beat up by a black girl in my
class, because she didn't like the way I looked. Maybe she was just sexually
discriminating against me....
