Patton and Eisenhower
This picture was taken October 15, 1945. A few days earlier Eisenhower had
begged Patton to run for Congress, “presumably in the belief that I might help
him” become President. Patton, however, was disgusted with the way Eisenhower
had run the European campaign, sacrificing thousands of lives for political
benefit. Because of this, Patton had every intention of going back to America
and telling people what Eisenhower was “really” doing so that Ike would be
unable to become President. And while this was going on, they both managed to
smile during this intra-army football game in Germany.
