The FBI improperly and, in some cases, illegally used the USA Patriot Act to secretly obtain personal information about people in the United States, a Justice Department audit concluded Friday.

And for three years the FBI underreported to Congress how often it forced businesses to turn over the customer data, the audit found.

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, who oversees the FBI, described the problems cited in the report as unacceptable and left open the possibility of criminal charges. He ordered further investigation.

Conservatives are stupid assholes. When the government wants to bug people's phones, search their homes, arrest and detain them without charges, etc., their attitude is "I don't break the law, so I have nothing to worry about."

The only reason the government would have for not obtaining a warrant from a judge is to conceal important information from the courts. So let the feds wire tap all the phones you want, search and arrest as much as you like -- but they need to get a God damned warrant before they do.

Conservative Republicans who think Bush is doing a good job need to get a clue, and stop blindly trusting the government and allowing it to take away the civil liberties that our ancestors died for and our founders risked everything for.

I'd rather be wrapped in the Constitution while burning the flag than be wrapped in the flag while burning the Constitution.

Signed,

A Retired Air Force Chief Master Sergeant who served six tours in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Iraq from 1991 through 2006.
