I live on the southwest coast of Florida and a few days ago we were blanketed
with thick, acrid smoke which cut visibility down to about 1/4 mile. At first
we thought there was a fire nearby and many people called emergency services,
overwhelming those services phone systems. Turns out the smoke was (and is
still) being carried from hundreds of miles to our North by winds from
subtropical Storm Andrea.
