I only ever see things about how proud everyone is of being American; yet every second thing is about how this state and that state should split from the union.

Also, parts of states forming their own states.

Example: Every few years since the 1980s, there will be some band of idiots that wants to split the state of Washington down the Cascade mountain range -- sometimes bundling northern Idaho and eastern Oregon with it -- because the left side of the state leans left and the right side of the state leans right. Every time this fuckery comes up, they have a new name for the east side of the state and its bonus sections as a new state, like Liberty.
