Okay, so that makes even less sense.

Our VCR had this like.. rewind.. function. When you finished watching a tape you could rewind it! Just like magic.

Why would you need an external rewinder unless you're a video store, and even then I'd imagine you'd just use a player? That's just bizarre.

No time to rewind because you gotta watch the next video.
If you ain't watching videos back to back then you ain't watching video tapes.

I think it used to take about 60 seconds to rewind a tape. I could be misremembering; but that's what I can recall.

More than ample time to go take a piss, get something to drink, get some more junk food to shovel into your gob and come back to fire up the next movie.

I just had this fleeting moment where I thought "maybe I should buy a VCR to play some of my old tapes".

Then I remembered I have no idea at all where ANY of my old tapes are

I used to own stuff that I want now. I don't know what happened to any of it. Where's my old 486 PC? My old Pentium? My old VCR? My disks, tapes?

At least I still have most of my CDs..

Reasons for owning this thing...

Novelty (cause you can't afford a real Ferrari)

Reduction of wear on the VCR ( I can buy into this reason)

Binge watching your collection (too long to rewind before repeating your favorite parts of porn613.net)

Accessory collecting (because your friends will really think you are legit)


(also there is a dvd/blu-ray rewinder out there too)

DVD/Blu-ray rewinder I can understand. They hold more data so would take longer, thus freeing up the drive..

The stated reason for VHS tape rewinders is to save wear and tear on the VCR's motor. Not entirely certain why 90 seconds in fast reverse is harder than 90 minutes on slow forward, but that's what we've got.
