And it was cat 5 then all of a sudden cat 1 (still dangerous of course).
The media need to sensationalise to get clicks, so no Armageddon then go for plan B, Trump.
hot smiley
What is concerning to me is the government agencies doing the same but for different reasons. No not political reasons.
They cannot afford to downplay anything (even the couf back then) because if they say "Nah, it'll be fine" and Florida man goes out and gets himself killed, they will be viewed as liable. So EVERYTHING is the end of the world, pack your bags, hit the shelters and wait for us to tell you when it's OK to come out.

Okay, I've been dealing with these things for 45 hurricane seasons and you know you don't know what you're talking about, just trying to get a rise out of me, so here you go. They don't suddenly go from cat 5 to cat 1, it takes a variety of conditions acting on them over hours or days to make a change in category such as the drop from a major hurricane (cat 3-5) to cat 1. I'm no meteorologist but I understand the mechanics of why they change strength and why it's impossible to know exactly where they'll make landfall. This one dropped from 5 to 3 before landfall because it drew it dry air from and approaching cold front that also provided upper level wind shear which also has a weakening affect. Once over land they lose their fuel, warm water, and further weaken, the winds drop, but they still can carry a tremendous amount of rain over long distances as Helene did as it also drew in more rain from an approaching rainy front. I evacuated for Milton because an unusually high surge of water was expected to come up the harbor and the river that's just one km away, and the possibility of hurricane force winds acting on my old house. With the way these gigantic systems wobble (those straight, slightly curved lines of the tracks are an average) for many miles the worst of it could have easily passed right through my town, they have twice before since I've been here, but the center of this one landed just far enough north that my place was barely damaged, no Armageddon for me and many others, but right down nearer the river, through the town, and for hundreds of miles up and down the coast, the surge of water came, almost three meters above normal high tide here, and millions of people are now homeless, jobless, without their businesses, and a few who didn't heed the evacuation orders without their lives. Hurricanes also create tornadoes far away from their center and this one was a record setter with over 100 tornado warnings and numerous touchdowns which accounted for the greatest loss of life from Milton. This notion that they are "sensationalized" is bullshit, the time to prepare is while they are days away and where the center will make landfall predictable only within hundreds of miles, and for some dimwits who make those preparations only to have the center strike far enough away to cause them little or no damage they think it was sensationalized but in reality it could have easily been on top of them and their good fortune made their preparations a good drill for what could happen. They aren't dimwits for preparing, they're dimwits for thinking their time and anxiety were pointless.

And just for fun, somebody that I crossed paths with during the evacuation that I wouldn't have ordinarily been around has given me a cold. Communicable diseases, anyone?

just because something is a conspiracy theory doesn't mean it isn't true.

Ah, yes, the wit and wisdom of pro_jackoff who never met a conspiracy theory he didn't like. Go check your pets & make sure they haven't been eaten by some foreigner. Then go look for the edge of the earth, it's out there somewhere.

PJ, in the 1980's, before there was internet, I came across books in print that were all written to a basic formula: transparent, everything yank is good, or; opaque, everything else is bad. They claimed all sorts of things against Britain, British, Nobility, British Nobility, European 'elite' and a raft of drivel against RIO Tinto and its directors. That taught me all I needed to know about 'conspiracy theories' and who writes them. Now the formula may be refined but it's still by the same imbeciles: a post on another site says Mormons, but they're not a subject I'm familiar with.

You could stop paying attention, but if it scares the imbeciles so much, then vote Trump and be done with it!

NB.: anyone dumb enough to believe your government set up the cyclone, I have shares in the Sydney Harbour Bridge to sell you - unlimited supply!

Kim, if you're reading, I owe you an apology. The post I mention above told me who's been annoying me since I went on the internet in 1999 - Mormons believe the yank constitution will cover the whole earth/universe, that Australia is in Oceania, all history/knowledge leads to a world yankeeland and other stuff. When you said "Last I heard we all have our own constitutions" really woke me up - there's a group of crazies within your population, it's not all of you.

But you, Quasi and PJ could stop throwing hatchets at each other.
