Useless imperial measurements, who cares if they're right? They make no sense.

How to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius

0 degrees Fahrenheit is equal to -17.77778 degrees Celsius:

0 °F = -17.77778 °C

The temperature T in degrees Celsius (°C) is equal to the temperature T in degrees Fahrenheit (°F) minus 32, times 5/9:

T(°C) = (T(°F) - 32) × 5/9

or

T(°C) = (T(°F) - 32) / (9/5)

or

T(°C) = (T(°F) - 32) / 1.8
Example

Convert 68 degrees Fahrenheit to degrees Celsius:

T(°C) = (68°F - 32) × 5/9 = 20 °C

Most of us in the US don't care about the metric system. We weren't raised with it so it makes no sense to us.

JG: your science community does. As evidenced by the how to convert post, it's fucking stupid otherwise smiling

Then you get countries that can't decide. It was always annoying living in the UK with temperature and weight in real numbers and distances and fluid volumes in crazy speak. Gah.

I've had to use the metric system at work when I used to build wooden bridges for Japan...it's not hard to learn and definitely makes more sense than what we normally use in the USA

it all comes down to centimeters sound much bigger when measuring your dick than inches.....see the real reason now?

like me for instance....12 inches = 30.48 centimeters. (yeah i had to look that one up. smiling

The metric system was never taught in schools when I was there in the 60' and 70's so I never learned it and to me it looks stupid. Our science community can use it because they deal with measures around the world but the average Joe in America not so much. If I am supposed to go 5 miles south I know how far to go.

The base ten metric system is easier to work with but for those of us who have been forever using the other systems it is a difficult adaptation for every day uses. And when do we go to base ten timekeeping? 20 hour days, 10 day weeks anyone?

I like the idea of mies, yards feet and inches. Has as romantic charm to it.
But the rest of the imperial measures can go fuck a duck.

Much prefer metric nut, bolt and wrench sizings but gimme thousandths of an inch for precise measurements (kind of a bastardization of both systems, really). For weights, length measurements, speed, temperature and distances (in Texas we tend to measure distances in time, not miles anyway) there's too much ingrained usage to wanna swap into metric mode at this stage in the game (*binladen*)
