It wasn't a war about slavery, it was a war to keep the union together. That is, until, Lincoln abolished slavery in only confederate states as a WAR TACTIC.

Yes, it was about money and keeping the fragile "union" together. Lincoln didn't give a shit about slavery.. "He..declared that he had no intention of ending slavery where it existed, or of repealing the Fugitive Slave Law -- a position that horrified African Americans and their white allies."

I think what this is saying is if the Southern States knew what a problem blacks would end up being, they would have payed whites to work the plantations rather than import black slaves from Africa.
