You guys are friggin' killin' me with this crap. Five minutes.
BlahX3 Report This Comment Date: February 16, 2012 10:24PM
Lordy B. Took about 2 seconds for me. I wasn't timing it but it is quite large.
That one of the BMW tower took the longest and several retries. I think it
finally came across in about 5 minutes.
Good picture.
It's mostly either Fossil D or Pro J with lard-ass pictures that I've noticed
lately.

Damn Blah are you using dialup? Mine took less than a second.
BlahX3 Report This Comment Date: February 17, 2012 04:38PM
No but I'm on the fringe of a wireless network so I get a low signal.
jgoins Report This Comment Date: February 19, 2012 11:42AM
Maybe you should look into getting internet through AT&T or Verison, even
that should be faster than what you have.
BlahX3 Report This Comment Date: February 19, 2012 03:57PM
Thanks for the suggestion but what I'm getting now is at no cost to me so I
can't complain. It does what I want and need so for now it's cool. It gets kinda
crappy streaming video but it depends on the source. Even that is usually
usable.
The other thing about my connection is that there are several devices sharing it
so depending on the activity even with a good or very good signal things can bog
down quite a bit. Eventually I may get a separate connection but that is not
economically feasible now.

Nothing wrong with mooching off a neighbors wifi. My son did it for a year.
BlahX3 Report This Comment Date: February 20, 2012 04:16PM
My neighbor offered it and gave me the key. Didn't even ask. I was using
another neighbors before, also was offered, but hers was really low signal due
to the distance. Sometimes I can get a "very good" signal here but
he's got another neighbor using it and he's got at least 5 devices on it himself
so it bottlenecks sometimes. I don't like mooching connections without
permission and never have done it.

Most people never encrypt their wifi and never even notice when someone else is
on it.
BlahX3 Report This Comment Date: February 21, 2012 03:00PM
All ISPs here now require that encryption be used in new installations. They
don't want anyone getting free internet, it takes potential money away from
them. In our case it doesn't mater because if it wasn't free we wouldn't have
it. We can't even afford cable TV.
jgoins Report This Comment Date: February 22, 2012 12:15PM
don't you live in a free country? Where I live the ISP can't dictate how you
setup any router that you purchase and install yourself.
BlahX3 Report This Comment Date: February 22, 2012 06:06PM
Yeah but I wasn't talking about self installed gear. The TOS of major ISPs
state that you are not allowed to share your connection with the neighbors, so
let's just keep this on the QT.
jgoins Report This Comment Date: February 23, 2012 11:56AM
Well I never had one tell me not to share my connection. The only thing I ever
heard about was not being able to charge for the connection shared. But even
the commercial for one company's hotspot showed a little girl selling connection
to her hotspot.
BlahX3 Report This Comment Date: February 27, 2012 01:50AM
Just cuz you didn't hear it doesn't mean anything. Read the TOS for your ISP.
I'll bet there's something in there about it.
BTW, speed tests are misleading. My connection TESTS consistently at 5Mbs dl but
during an actual download I'm lucky to get even 1Mbs.

Well just like in real-estate downloads are location location location.
